Dear Georgetown Law Community,

I am pleased to announce that Anjali Patel will be joining Georgetown Law as our new Chief Diversity Officer. She will take on this title effective October 11, 2022. The Chief Diversity Officer is a new and critical position at the Law Center that will report to me.

Ms. Patel has been a longtime advocate and mentor in the field of diversity and equity. She brings to Georgetown over two decades of experience developing and executing diversity, equity, employment law, and inclusion leadership strategies. Ms. Patel, a lawyer by trade, previously served as the Global Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Winrock International, a non-profit humanitarian organization. She is also the author of the book “Humanity at Work: Diversity, Inclusion, and Wellbeing in an Increasingly Distributed Workforce.” Anjali holds a Juris Doctor from Ohio State University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Finance from Kent State University.

Among her responsibilities, she will oversee all aspects of the Office of Equity and Inclusion and will collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to develop strategies and lead institutional change.

I would like to thank the interview committee – faculty, administrators, and student leaders – who contributed their valuable time and attention to this process. I would also like to acknowledge the work and contributions of our Inclusion Council, whose deliberations and recommendations were taken into consideration for the creation of this role. Over the past year, the Council has made strides towards reorganizing the structure of the Office of Equity and Inclusion. These efforts, and many more, will provide additional support and resources to students and our wider community. Ms. Patel will be an invaluable resource to everyone in our community as we work to continue to staff the Office of Equity and Inclusion and develop and implement our long-term DEI Strategic Plan.

I am excited for Ms. Patel to take on this new role to help guide our community in these efforts. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Patel!

Sincerely,

William M. Treanor
