Rain Site Arrangements
Information
Tickets are not required for the Main Ceremony if the weather is nice. However, in the event of rain, tickets will be required for the main ceremony only, to be held in McDonough Arena on Main Campus at 2 p.m.
University officials will announce a "rain call" by noon on the Sunday of Commencement regarding whether the Main Ceremony will take place indoors. A notice will then be posted on the homepage of Georgetown University Law Center. In addition, the University's Inclement Weather telephone message will be updated with the ceremony location. The telephone number is 202-687-SNOW (202-687-7669).
In the event of rain, there will be seating in the Pavilion tent outside of McDonough Arena for guests without rain site tickets. There they will be able to view the Main Ceremony from a satellite TV projector. All guests will still be able to attend the 3 p.m. Diploma Presentation Ceremonies without a ticket.
Rain Site Ticket Distribution
Graduates may pick up 2 tickets in Room 171, beginning in early March. Tickets must be claimed in person in the Office of Student Life. This first round of rain site ticket distribution will continue through mid April. There is no charge for Rain Site tickets. Tickets not claimed by mid April will be forfeited.
In late April, the second round of the rain site ticket distribution begins. At this time, graduates can pick up 2 additional rain site tickets for commencement, again at no charge. The second round will be conducted on a first come, first served basis.
If graduates forget to pick up their first 2 rain site tickets before the end of the first round ends in mid April, they will only be able to pick up a maximum of 2 rain site tickets, even if they are coming in for the first time.
If tickets remain after the second round, a final round of distribution may be held in early May.
The Office of Student Life will not replace any lost or stolen tickets.
*Please note that graduates do not need tickets for themselves.
