Antitrust
Antitrust laws seek to promote fair competition by regulating monopolies and other anti-competitive practices. Many antitrust lawyers have economics backgrounds, though this is not required. Antitrust lawyers in law firms typically help ensure compliance with antitrust laws both domestically and abroad, defend companies subject to government investigations or class-action lawsuits, and provide guidance in mergers and other business activities. Antitrust attorneys in government work to protect consumers while encouraging free commerce by bringing both civil and criminal actions to enforce antitrust laws.
