Recommended Job Search Tool: PSLawNet Alerts

Opportunities in the PSLawNet database include internships (fall, spring, and summer), postgraduate fellowships, and a wide variety of permanent positions at many levels of experience.  PSLawNet also includes over 11,000 organizational profiles for nonprofit, government, and other public interest employers spanning the globe.  Registered users may search the database, flag and store opportunities for later viewing, receive email alerts with newly posted opportunities, and apply directly for opportunities on PSLawNet.

To create an alert, log in or register as a new user on the PSLawNet home page.  In the bottom left corner “User Options” box, select create/edit email alerts to receive notification for new attorney, new fellowship and/or new summer internship postings.   Users can further customize their alerts by practice area and location.

OCS Winter Holiday Hours

Beginning Monday, December 5, 2011, the Office of Career Services will be open Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm.  We will resume normal academic year hours on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. There will be no scheduled walk-in hours during the holiday break, but advisors will be available for individual appointments and will frequently be able to take walk-in questions.  Please feel free to make an appointment with an OCS counselor by logging into Appointment Plus or by  calling (202) 662-9300.

OCS follows the Law Center calendar and will be closed Friday, December 23, 2011 through Monday, January 2, 2012.

DC Employment Justice Center - Spring 2012 Law Clerks Needed

The law clerk will perform legal research and writing and provide litigation support to staff attorneys; attend and participate in the EJC’s weekly Workers’ Rights Clinics on Wednesdays and twice per month on Mondays in SE; conduct intakes for clients who cannot come to the weekly clinics; and participate in advocacy and organizing efforts.

Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish preferred.

Spring Semester Clerkships are approximately 15 hours per week.

The EJC will cooperate with law clerks in seeking funding and/or credit for the semester.

State Court Clerkships - Updated Information and Immediately Available Clerkship

We have updated state court clerkship vacancy information available online for all State Supreme Courts, as well as trial level courts in DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey - the information is available online at http://www.law.georgetown.edu/career/clerkships/resources.cfm under “Clerkship Vacancies.”  Clicking on a court’s link will provide not only a list of which judges are hiring, but also the required application materials.  Mailing information for these judges can be found on Symplicity under the Clerkships tab. 

The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals is seeking applicants for 5 clerkship positions – including 2 two start immediately.  Successful applicants will have at least a 2.2 GPA, be able to pass a criminal background check, and be willing to take the West Virginia bar if offered the position.  The position has a rolling deadline, but students are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later.  Interested students should send an application, cover letter, resume, transcript, and writing sample to:

Announcing the 2012 Georgetown/GW Law Public Sector Recruiting Program

Announcing the 2012 Georgetown/George Washington Law Public Sector Recruiting Program

Interviews and Table Talk will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the GWU Marvin Center

Information on participating employers will be available on the PSRP instance of Symplicity on December 16, 2011.

 
The Public Sector Recruiting Program is a day-long job fair for Georgetown and George Washington law students to interview for summer 2012 internships and permanent positions with non-profit organizations, government agencies and public interest law firms. Approximately 200 employers participated in 2011.

The Program consists of scheduled interviews, table talk (informal information exchange) and a resume collection option for employers that cannot interview at GW.

The program is “pre-screened,” which means that employers pre-select the students they wish to interview.  Every participating employer agrees to interview a similar number of GU & GW students.

 We use Symplicity, to administer the Program. This means that you will register, research employers, upload your cover letters and resumes, “bid for” (request) interviews and schedule interviews online.  

Employer information will be available in mid-December on the Symplicity site that exclusively houses the Public Sector Recruiting Program.  (Please note: it is not the same url as the Symplicity website that houses other GU Law recruiting programs.)  

Students are required to upload employer specific cover letters (in addition to resumes).  Public sector employers prefer cover letters as part of students’ applications.

Human Rights First welcomes applications for spring interns in its Law and Security program. Interns will be based in the HRF Washington office and will be expected to commit to working up to 15 hours per week with a minimum 10-12 week commitment. This is an unpaid internship.
