Women’s Bar Association Annual Dinner – Seeking Law Students Volunteers

The Women’s Bar Association (WBA) is seeking law student volunteers for their annual dinner on May 26th at the National Building Museum.  Volunteers can attend for free – this is a great networking opportunity!  Interested students should contact Kim Anderson at events@wbadc.org.   

Founded in 1917, the WBA is one of the oldest voluntary bar associations in the United States dedicated to the advancement of women in the law. Their Annual Dinner helps support the ongoing efforts of the WBA to maintain the honor and integrity of the legal profession, to promote the administration of justice, and to advance and protect the interests of women lawyers. Proceeds from the Annual Dinner also help support the WBA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) educational and charitable organization that seeks to improve the lives and futures of women and children, and to address legal issues of particular concern to women.

REMINDER - Nuts & Bolts of Applying to Clerkships - Mon., April 18th at 3:30pm

Learn more about the process of applying for judicial clerkships during the Nuts and Bolts of Applying to Clerkships session on Monday, April 18th from 3:30-4:30pm in McDonough 203.  The presentation will include detailed information on the Symplicity registration process and the procedures for creating both paper and electronic applications for state and federal court judges.  This presentation will be taped and should be available on our website shortly after the presentation.  The powerpoint for this presentation is available on the resources section of the clerkship website.

REMINDER - Careers in Securities and Finance Panel - Friday, April 15th at 12pm

The Careers in Securities and Finance Panel will be co-hosted with the Office of Career Services and the Corporate Law Association, and will take place this Friday, April 15th at noon in MCD 140.  This panel will introduce motivated students to the diverse range of career options that the world of corporate law has to offer, and offer a first-hand account of how others have pursued successful alternative careers in the fields of finance and securities.

Careers in Animal Law – Tues., April 19th at 6pm

Are you interested in putting you law degree to work for animal protection? If so, join the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF) and the Office of Career Services (OCS) to get the scoop directly from practicing attorneys in animal law. Speakers from the Humane Society of the United States, The Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine and Meyer Glitzenstein & Crystal will discuss what it is like to practice law on behalf of the animals and the path they took to to get where they are.

California Market Presentation - Wed., April 20th at 3:30pm

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to practice law in California? Then you’ll want to attend OCS’s upcoming presentation on the California market by Amber Handman, a recruiter with SFB Search in Los Angeles. Her program will highlight the types of clients you might have, practices indigenous to the geographic market, hiring trends, what it’s like to live there and why you might want to practice there. The program will be at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday April 20 in McDonough 164.

Amber has also offered six 20 minute one-on-one appointments with students which will run from 1:20pm-3:20pm. These appointments will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you would like to set up an appointment, please stop by the OCS front desk. If you hope to practice law in California, this is a program that can’t be missed!
