3L FAQ – What clerkship deadlines are coming up soon?

This is the time for clerkship applicants to be researching judges, registering in Symplicity, and following up with recommenders to be certain that they have provided any information that would be helpful to the recommenders. 

Please keep in mind the below deadlines, and remember that applicants cannot add judges after June 22 (for students applying to state courts in advance of the first mailing or alumni applicants applying in advance of the first mailing) or July 12 (for students applying to federal courts and alumni who did not meet the pre-first mailing deadlines).

2011-2012 Equal Justice Works/Americorps Post Graduate Fellowships (for 2011 and earlier grads)

Announcing the 2011-2012 Equal Justice Works/Americorps Fellowships.  Fellowships will begin as early as August 1, 2011 and interested candidates will apply directly to the host sites.  The fellowship program was created in 1993 to address the gaps in the legal aid community through pro bono management and direct representation.  EJW/AmeriCorps Legal Fellows work in a variety of issues areas, including health care, immigration, public benefits, foreclosure prevention, veteran’s issues, education and more, providing legal assistance to thousands of people each year.

Benefits include:
The AmeriCorps Legal Fellow’s compensation of $46,200, which includes a living allowance of $24,200; and $22,000 housing allowance;
Full medical benefits; $5,550 AmeriCorps Legal Education Award upon successful completion of service; Student loan forbearance and interest accrual payment upon successful completion of service; Participation in Equal Justice Works training opportunities and conferences, as applicable; and State bar dues.

This summer, OCS is hosting several Interview Workshops to help students, particularly rising 2L/3Es, prepare for interviews coming up in the fall.  These workshops will offer insight and advice on how to research and prepare for interviews, how to handle tackle difficult questions, and how to best present yourself in a down economy.    

The first workshop will be held on Thursday, June 23rd at 6:00pm in McDonough 200.

While the workshops are offered live in Washington, DC and New York, they will be videotaped and webcast for those students who are out of town for the summer.  Interviews are always an important component of the recruiting process, but are even more so now.  This is an invaluable opportunity to sharpen your skills, so we encourage all students to attend!

Additional workshops will be held on Monday, July 18th at 6:00pm (New York, NY – location TBA) and Thursday, August 11th at 6:00pm (Washington, DC).

Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis, a law firm in Nashville, TN, is seeking 3L students for its Schola2Juris apprenticeship program.  In lieu of a summer associate program, the firm has developed an intensive, practice-specific fall apprenticeship that provides a unique opportunity for students to gain law firm experience while earning a $10,000 scholarship.
