"To land a job, you have to convince other lawyers that you will do a better job of making their lives easier than anyone else they are interviewing. That first requires understanding their needs and then demonstrating that you have both the ability and desire to meet those needs. Many new law graduates are great at showing enthusiasm and highlighting their skills, but their answers in interviews seem generic or canned, because they do not clearly understand the needs and concerns of their prospective employers. In other words, they do not understand the employer’s perspective on what it takes to be a successful lawyer.

“From Brookings to ambassador” – Alumni Profile of Laurie Fulton (L’89), U.S. Ambassador to Denmark

“When in her mid-30s, Fulton decided to go back to school for her law degree: She graduated from Georgetown Law School, magna cum laude, in 1989….She became a partner at Williams & Connolly LLP, a law practice in Washington, D.C. According to a biography provided by Fulton, her law practice included complex civil litigation, government investigations, and white-collar criminal defense. In 2004 she was named one of “Washington’s Top Lawyers” by Washingtonian magazine. But in 2009, Fulton saw a chance to become ambassador to Denmark.”

As part of their annual conference, International Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC) is sponsoring a Professional Meet & Greet for all Georgetown Law students interested in a career in bankruptcy on Thursday, April 19 at 1:30 p.m.  This will be a great opportunity for students to mix and mingle with bankruptcy professionals from around the country and learn more about the types of jobs available in this growing area of the law.

Our annual end of the year celebration is next week! Please stop by to celebrate another year of extraordinary service performed by members of our community. 

It's scheduled for Thursday, April 26th at 5:00pm (Gewirz 12) 

This is our evening to come together with classmates, friends and colleagues to acknowledge the people and events that

presents "Very Young Girls"

Very Young Girls is an exposé of the commercial sexual exploitation of girls in New York City as they are sold on the streets by pimps and treated as adult criminals by police. The film follows barely adolescent girls in real time, using vérité and intimate interviews with them, documenting their struggles and triumphs as they seek to exit the commercial sex industry. The film also uses startling footage shot by pimps themselves, giving a rare glimpse into how the cycle of exploitation begins for many women.

The film identifies hope for these girls in the organization GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Services), a recovery agency founded and run by Rachel Lloyd, herself a survivor of commercial sexual exploitation. GEMS is committed to ending commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking of children by changing individual lives, transforming public perception, and revolutionizing the systems and policies that impact commercially sexually exploited youth. Very Young Girls will change the way law enforcement, the media, and society as a whole look at the commercial sexual exploitation, street prostitution, and human trafficking that is happening right in our own backyard.
