Reminder - How to Succeed as a Summer Associate - Tomorrow, 4/11 at 3:30pm

If you are a 1L or 2L spending the summer at a law firm this year, you won’t want to miss OCS's annual How to Succeed as a Summer Associate program on Wednesday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m. in Gewirz 12. In addition to hearing from a panel of recruiting professionals about what it takes to get that coveted offer at the end of the summer, you will have the chance to meet 3Ls who spent last summer at a firm and learn about their experiences.

The panelists, who have seen it all when it comes to summer associate programs, include: Tim Lloyd (Hiring Partner at Hogan Lovells in Washington, DC); Jacquelyn Stone (Former Hiring Partner at McGuire Woods in Richmond); and Dyana Barninger (Legal Recruitment & Development Regional Manager at K&L Gates in Washington, DC).

2012 Ms. Foundation Post Grad Fellowship

Ms. Foundation for Women in Brooklyn, NY, is seeking applicants for a full-time, one-year, paid fellowship.  Applications are due April 30, 2012.

The Ms. Foundation is particularly interested in applicants who wish to develop projects that demonstrate the potential for large-scale, structural change in the areas of child care (access to affordable care and improved working conditions for care providers), reproductive health or child sexual abuse.

The fellow will receive financial compensation and health benefits, in addition to mentorship and support from Ms. Foundation staff. The fellowship is a full-time, one-year commitment, beginning Sept. 4 at the Ms. Foundation offices in New York. In addition to the first year of support, the fellow will also be eligible to apply for a $50,000 continuation grant upon completion of the fellowship.

Summer Funding: Announcing the Gaylaw Education Fund DC Summer Fellowship

The Gaylaw Education Fund, a 501(c)(3) affiliate of Gaylaw, is proud to announce its 2012 Summer Fellowships, which will support law students working at DC-area LGBT legal non-profit organizations. The Fund hopes to encourage law students taking their first steps toward careers tackling our nation's most complex LGBT legal issues. The Fund will pay up to $1,000 to law students selected to be Gaylaw Education Fund 2012 Summer Fellows.

Qualifications:

Enrollment in a U.S. accredited law school
Summer employment offered by a non-profit legal organization in the Washington, DC metropolitan area
Primary focus of the organization must be on LGBT legal issues or serving LGBT clients
Employers must be non-profit and non-partisan
Commitment to work at least 20 hours per week for at least 10 weeks at the organization during the summer of 2012
Applicants must demonstrate commitment to a legal career serving the rights of LGBT clients or advocating for LGBT-specific legal issues
Total funding that the law student is already receiving for summer employment cannot exceed $5,000 (not including the Gaylaw Education Fund Summer Fellowship)

3Ls and recent grads: Capital City Fellows Program - work in DC Government

Capital City Fellows Program, DC

The Office will hire 10-25 3Ls and Recent Grads (w/in 2 years) for the paid ($50,000; 4% increase in year 2) 2-year Capital City Fellows Program, which begins in October, 2012. Permanent employment is possible, but not guaranteed. Designed for those with an interest in administration, local government, and policy development, the Fellowship offers four 6-month rotations in various agencies, including the Office of City Administrator; Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs; Office of Citizen Complaint Review; Department of Health; Department of Human Services; Metropolitan Police Department; Office of Personnel; Office of Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development; Office of Chief Financial Officer; Department of Motor Vehicles; and District Department of Transportation. Placements are based on need, as well as skills and preferences. In addition to on-the-job training, Fellows meet with high-level city officials, and participate in educational and professional development seminars.

Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in public service, minimum 3.5 GPA, capacity for leadership and future professional growth. A connection or commitment to the District is also viewed favorably. Within 180 days of beginning work, Fellows must become residents of the District. U.S. citizenship is not required, but non-citizens must provide documentation of identity and employment eligibility (the Program cannot sponsor visas).

"Building a Professional Wardrobe"- TODAY at 4pm

Phi Alpha Delta invites you to attend "Building a Professional Wardrobe" on April 9th at 4:00 PM in room MCD 110.

They will be having representatives from Brooks Brothers talk about the main staples of clothing all young lawyers need to work in a professional legal environment.  They'll also be offering advice on which styles work best on different shapes/body types.  

Chick-fil-a will be served.  Brooks Brothers will also be giving out prizes and other giveaways to participants!
