Inserting Footnotes and Endnotes

- Open your document.
- Place your cursor where you want to insert your first footnote or endnote.
- Click on the word Insert in the Menu bar.
- Hold your cursor over the option Reference.
- Select the option Footnote.
- The Footnote and Endnote dialog will appear.

- In the Location section, choose whether you want to add
a footnote or an endnote.
- Click on the Insert button.
- If you enable the Footnotes field, your cursor will be
placed at the bottom of the page, under the footnote line and to the right
of the appropriate footnote number.
- Type your footnote.
- If you enable the Endnotes field, your cursor will be placed
at the end of the document, under the endnote line and to the right of the
appropriate endnote number.
- Type your endnote.
- When you are done typing your note, click anywhere within the document.
- When you are ready to add another note, place your cursor accordingly and
display the Footnote and Endnote dialog again.
- The Footnote and Endnote dialog will appear, with the
appropriate field (Footnotes or Endnotes)
already selected.
- Click on the Insert button to add the note.
Note: To delete a note, select the reference number of the note
you want to delete FROM WITHIN THE BODY OF YOUR DOCUMENT and press the Delete
key on your keyboard. Microsoft Word will automatically renumber the
remaining notes. If you delete a reference number from the note section of your
document, you will corrupt your notes - do not do this!
