Applying Styles Using the Styles Icon

When you begin working in a new Microsoft Word document, the default style is Normal. To switch styles, follow the instructions listed below.

  1. Click once anywhere within a paragraph.
  2. Click on the dropdown arrow to the right of the Style icon.
  3. Select a new style.

Note 1: When you apply a style, it affects an entire paragraph or line of text. In other words, styles change everything between two paragraph markers.

Note 2: Do not select text when applying a paragraph style. Doing so will result in the style only being applied to that selection. Simply make sure that the insertion point is anywhere within the paragraph, then apply the style.
