Creating a New Style

You can create paragraph styles through the task pane.

  1. Open a blank document.
  2. Type some sample text.**
  3. Format the paragraph the way you want it to appear.
  4. Click once within the paragraph.
  5. Open the Styles and Formatting Task Pane.
  6. A sample of the paragraph's formatting will be displayed in the Formatting of Selected Text field, located at the top of the task pane and pictured to the right.
  7. Click on the New Style button right below it.
  1. The New Style dialog will appear, pictured to the right.
  2. Type a name for your style in the Name field.
  3. Click on the OK button.
  4. Your new style will now be created.
  5. Apply it to the desired text.

Note: You can view all of the paragraph style's formatting in the area below the display section.

**To quickly enter sample text, type the formula =rand(1,4), in which the number one (1) refers to the number of paragraphs and the number four (4) refers to the number of sentences within each paragraph.
