Making Basic Style Modifications Using the Task Pane

You can modify paragraph styles quite easily through the task pane. Modifying styles allows you to take advantage of one of the benefits of using styles –the ability to make a change in one place that will take affect throughout the entire document.

  1. Open the Styles and Formatting Task Pane.
  2. Position the cursor anywhere within a paragraph that contains the style you want to modify.
  3. That style name will be displayed in the Formatting of Selected Text field, located at the top of the task pane (pictured to the right).
  4. Hold your cursor over the Formatting of Selected Text field.
  5. A downwards pointing arrow will appear to its right.
  6. Click on the downwards pointing arrow and choose the option Modify....
  1. The Modify Style dialog will appear (pictured to the right).
  2. Make basic formatting changes in the Formatting section.
  3. Click on the OK button.
  4. Your changes will affect all text that has that style applied within the open document.
