Making Style Modifications within a Document

You can change your paragraph and text formatting within a document and then update that style. To do so, follow the instructions listed below.

  1. Display the Styles and Formatting Task Pane.
  2. Select some of the text you wish to modify. You can also place the cursor within a paragraph containing the style you wish to modify.
  3. Make the desired modifications to the text or paragraph.
  4. Make sure the text is still selected or the cursor is still somewhere within the modified paragraph.
  5. In the Pick Formatting to Apply section of the Styles and Formatting task pane, use the scroll bar to find the style you want to update.
  6. Hold your cursor over the style name that you want to update.
  7. A downwards pointing arrow will appear to its right.
  8. Click once on the arrow and choose the option Update to Match Selection.
  9. Your changes will affect all text that has that style applied within the open document.

Note: The Update to Match Selection option can only be found in the Pick Formatting to Apply section of the Styles and Formatting Task Pane.
