Opening Microsoft Office 2007 Files ruler

Please be advised that all users of any previous version of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Office 2003, must install converters to open Office 2007 files.

All Office 2007 files all end in an x. So, a Microsoft Word 2007 file will appear as a .docx file. A Microsoft Excel 2007 file will appear as an .xlsx file. And, a Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 file will appear as a .pptx file. What to do if you receive an Office 2007 file as an email attachment, but do not have Microsoft Office 2007 installed on your computer? You have to download converters.

The Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats page is located at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941b3470-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en. Once there, click on the Download button, located in the middle of the page. When prompted to run or save the file, click on the Run button. The converters will download and install. Once that is complete, you will be able to open Office 2007 documents.

For those using Microsoft Office 2004 for Macs, the converters that will enable you to open Office 2007 files can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/download/Office2004/ConverterBeta_0_2.xml. Please be aware that the Mac converters are still in beta.
