Sports Law Research Guide

Recently, every time you scan the headlines or listen to the news, it seems like a sports personality is in trouble with the law. For this reason, many lawyers specialize in some aspect of Sports Law. The library maintains a Sports Law Research Guide to support the classes Georgetown Law offers on this topic.

Sports Law Research Guide

Sports Law encompasses intellectual property law, contracts, torts and more, so the guide identifies some of the major resources available to support this practice. Two of the best treatises on the topic available at the library are Sports and the Law and Drafting, Negotiating and Understanding Sports Law Transactions. The guide also recommends resources for current awareness, such as the ABA Forum on Entertainment & Sports Industries, as well as the National Sports Law Institute at Marquette University.

Friends of the Library can use almost all of the resources outlined in the guide when visiting the library, but contractual agreements restrict remote access to subscription databases. The guide does include links to a number of websites which can be freely accessed at any time.
