The Human Rights Associates Program is designed to introduce students to the practice of human rights law and deepen students' understanding of a range of practice areas. The program is managed as a partnership with the student group Human Rights Action/Amnesty International. The Program has elements tailored to incoming law students as well as to 2L, 3L and LL.M. students. During the 2014-2015 academic year, the Human Rights Associates Program will meet on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:00 pm, beginning September 17. Participation in the program is by application only. Applications are due by 11:59 PM on September 10 and are available here.
Each week, Associates will meet with a human rights attorney and discuss his or her practice. Participants have the unique opportunity to interact with high-level practitioners in an intimate, seminar-style environment and to learn about the challenges and opportunities involved in human rights work. The program will also provide tailored guidance to students regarding internships, clinics, and human rights career planning. In addition to attending weekly meetings and completing short background readings, Associates are required to attend and report back on a human rights event in Washington, D.C. in the fall semester and help organize a seminar session in the spring. The program does not provide academic credit. More information about the program is available here.
