This event will explore how the international investment architecture is evolving, from U.S. policy shifts, to China's Belt and Road Initiative, to advancing efforts by the European Union. Commissioner Síkela will offer remarks surveying the status and prospects of the EU's Global Gateway Initiative. Following these remarks, he will sit down with IIEL Visiting Scholar Peter Harrell for a moderated discussion about the future of European investment and allied coordination.

A Roundtable on Control & Ownership of Digital Assets under Private Commercial Law

Georgetown Law’s Institute of International Economic Law (IIEL) with generous support from Cahill Gordon & Reindel, Securitize, and Cleary Gottlieb Steen Hamilton are hosting a Roundtable on “Control and Ownership of Digital Assets under Private Commercial Law.” The discussion on the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and digital assets in Washington, DC.

As digital assets become increasingly integral to financial and commercial systems, legal certainty
regarding ownership, custody, and control has emerged as a critical issue. This roundtable will be widely attended by policymakers, academics, and industry leaders to examine the implications of the UCC Amendments and parallel global legal reforms aimed at defining digital property rights. The discussion will draw on papers from the recently published global volume, Control and Ownership of Digital Assets under Private Commercial Law, featuring contributions from leading experts on U.S., European, Latin American, Asian, and international approaches to legal “control” of digital assets, custodial responsibilities, and evolving models of distributed key management.
