John H. Jackson played the central role in founding and then leading the Institute of International Economic Law in 1999. Renowned as a man of integrity and concern for others, he was a valued mentor to generations of Georgetown Law students and to many on faculty.

Prof. Jackson was especially known for his work on the Trade Act of 1974 and for creating the intellectual framework for what became the World Trade Organization, including its dispute settlement process. His book World Trade and the Law of GATT is considered a foundational text for trade law and policy specialists.

The Jackson Fund provides merit-based scholarships for students enrolled at the Law Center, with a preference given to Fellows in the Institute of International Economic Law.
