Certificates

International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution Certificate

Each year, a small number of students will be selected as Georgetown Law International Arbitration Scholars based on their academic and professional backgrounds and a demonstrated interest in the subject area. Designation as a Scholar signals a student’s strong potential in the field. Scholars will receive partial to full tuition scholarships for their LL.M. degree studies, and will, over the course of their LL.M. degree study, participate in a Colloquium with the objective of developing a research topic and producing a paper of publishable quality under the supervision of a professor.

Certificates

International Taxation Certificate

Cross-border taxation constitutes the bread and butter of multinational taxpayers and the professional service firms that represent them, many headquartered in Washington, DC. The Certificate in International Taxation program is comprised of a dozen international tax courses, all taught by top experts at the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Treasury Department, major law firms and Big Four accounting firms.

The core curriculum concentrates on inbound and outbound U.S. international tax, transfer pricing, and tax treaties. Students may then choose among electives addressing international tax controversies, European Union tax law, value-added taxation, foreign tax credit, and a variety of courses addressing cross-border corporate tax planning.

Certificates

WTO & International Trade Certificate

The Certificate in WTO & International Trade Studies reflects Georgetown Law’s long-standing reputation and expertise in international trade law, in particular, regarding legal aspects of the World Trade Organization (WTO), preferential trade agreements and U.S. laws and regulations affecting international trade, including trade remedies and export controls.

The program aims to prepare students for work in government, diplomatic missions or international organizations (in particular, the WTO) focused on trade negotiations and the settlement of trade disputes. The Certificate also prepares students for work with a U.S. or foreign law firm engaged in domestic trade proceedings or the litigation of trade disputes at the WTO or under other trade or economic agreements.

Georgetown Law has one of the highest concentrations of trade-related law courses and faculty in the world. Students can benefit from the expertise and network of both permanent and visiting faculty in the field as well as a variety of Washington, DC based adjunct professors working for world-class trade law firms, U.S. government agencies or international organizations.
