Mai Ochiai is an LL.M. candidate at Georgetown Law with an interest in the nexus of trade, environment, and food security.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Tokyo, where she focused on international law, administrative law, and public administration.

Upon graduation, she started working for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF). Currently, she is studying at Georgetown as a member of the Japanese Government Overseas Fellowship Program.

Since entering MAFF in 2020, she has engaged in budget-making and amendment of regulations regarding Food and Agricultural Policy. 

She became interested in international trade law when she supervised legal affairs on the production, imports, and exports of rice.

Given her ultimate goal of ensuring food security in Japan and the world, she aspires to explore ways of creating more equitable and sustainable trade regimes by studying at Georgetown.
