Scans and Photos: App Recommendations for Spring 2015

Instructional Technology Librarian Jill SmithJill A. Smith

Instructional Technology Librarian Jill Smith’s app recommendations for the colorful seasons of spring and summer are Adobe Photoshop Express (PS Express) and CamScanner

Adobe Photoshop Express is a way to bring a bit more color and snap to your photographs –it is an image-editing app that can improve even the most wan smartphone shot.  It’s an easy-to-use tool that can help you adjust color, exposure, and white balance; remove blemishes; add borders or filters; and more.  It has the basic crop, rotate, straighten, and reduce red-eye as well.

PS Express is free (with optional in-app purchases) for iOS and Android.

CamScanner.  Ever needed to scan something but didn’t have access to a scanner? If you have a smartphone, you basically have a scanner in your pocket. CamScanner is an app that uses your phone or tablet’s camera to take a picture of a document, save it as a PDF, and run it through an optical character recognition engine. Best of all, if you sign up for a CamScanner account with a .edu e-mail address, you unlock all of its advanced features for free.

CamScanner is available for Android and iOS.

If you would like to recommend additions to the library’s mobile apps database, please contact Jill Smith, Instructional Technology Librarian, at jas515@law.georgetown.edu or 202-662-9165.
