“Lawyas” and “Angels” Tip Off for the Homeless

March 20, 2013 — They’re at it again — the “Hoya Lawyas” and “Hill’s Angels” — competing at the 26th annual “Home Court” charity basketball game. This year’s event, held at Trinity Washington University on Tuesday, March 19, raised $539,185.80 to benefit the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless.

Sen. Robert Casey (D-Pa.) led the 2013 congressional team, the “Hill’s Angels,” to a 44-34 victory. The “Hoya Lawyas,” coached by Dean of Students Mitchell Bailin and Adjunct Professor Michael Frisch, again included #16, Dean William Treanor, as well as Associate Dean John Mikhail and other faculty and staff.

Congressional players included Rep. André Carson (D-Ind.), Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Ca.), Rep. Gene Green (D-Texas), Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.), Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-N.C.), Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.), and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D.-N.Y.), a ’94 alum of Georgetown University’s School of Public Policy. Sen. John Thune (R.-S.D) co-chaired the event along with Casey.

Georgetown Law students, led by Jeff Schwaber, launched the annual basketball game in 1987; it has raised more than $5 million for the homeless.
