*Classes offered in English typically make adjustments to allow exchange students to take exams during classes and return home before the start of Georgetown’s spring semester.

Available Courses

Keio Law School offers a number of courses in English that are aimed at Japanese law students who hope to enter international practice. These courses, along with most of the LL.M. courses, are also open to exchange students, and most are comparative in nature. The 2024 courses have not been released yet, but courses from previous semesters included the following:

• Japanese Law (Legal History and Transformation)
• Japanese Law (Trade Law and Policy)
• Start up Company and Venture Capital Law

Because course offerings may change from year to year, it is possible that not all eligible courses are listed above. Participants in this program who wish to enroll in any course not listed above must contact the Office of Transnational Programs to request approval. Participants should not expect to receive credit for courses that are not expressly approved by OTP.

Most classes meet for 90 minutes per week for 15 weeks and are graded on an S-F scale. Credits earned at Keio Law School are calculated with reference to the ABA’s standard class formula (12.5 hours of class time, plus 30 hours of out of class preparation and studying, per one credit hour.) Students may be asked to verify the number of hours each course meets in order to confirm the number of credits that the student will receive upon completion of their semester abroad program. Housing & Facilities

Keio Law School has limited dormitory rooms available to law students. Most students find short-term off campus housing. Keio’s International Exchange Committee can assist in providing websites for student-oriented housing companies that provide information in English.

Keio’s facilities, as well as most of the city of Tokyo, are accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Students at Keio also have access to the University’s library.
