Legal Writing and Student Scholarship

The legal profession of the twenty-first century is driven by an increasingly global economy and rapid technological advances, yet basic research and writing skills are still the lawyer’s essential stock in trade. Employers, too, recognize that these skills are as critical as ever to being a good lawyer.

For more than twenty-five years, Georgetown and its experienced faculty have been committed to providing the progressive and sophisticated training that students need to be successful in a competitive legal market.

At Georgetown, all J.D. students take a year-long introductory course in legal research and writing as well as an upper class seminar or clinic that involves extensive supervised writing. In addition to these two requirements, Georgetown provides students with an abundance of upper level research and writing opportunities.
