Mason P. Ashe, President of Ashe Sports & Entertainment Consulting, Inc. ("ASEC"), is a sports attorney, brand manager, and educator -- who has played an integral role in negotiating and managing the success of professional athletes, entertainers, and entities that provide platforms and delivery mechanisms to commercialize such talent around the world.
Before re-launching ASEC, Professor Ashe was most recently a Partner in a national labor and employment law firm, where he provided advice and counsel to employers on employment law and regulatory compliance issues, and helped clients reduce employment litigation through management training and education on legal trends and judicial developments.
For more than twenty years, Professor Ashe has acquired a wealth of experience from a variety of business and legal positions. He was Of Counsel in a boutique law firm in Baltimore, MD (2009-2011); President of ASEC (2004-2009); the co-founder, COO, and General Counsel of Strickland & Ashe Management Consulting LLC (1997-2004); and a Vice President in the Team Sports Division at International Management Group ("IMG")(1993-1997), one of the world's largest and most successful sports agency founded by sports management industry pioneer Mark McCormack.
Professor Ashe has structured and negotiated deals related to athlete and entertainer employment, executive compensation, digital content licensing, and other agreements associated with the commercialization of talent in the sports and entertainment industries. As a result, he has counseled a wide range of companies (both publicly traded and privately held), non-profit organizations, and individuals such as athletes, celebrity chefs, coaches, producers of TV and web-based reality shows, and some of the pioneers of social networking and New Media platforms changing the way digital content is created, published, distributed, and consumed.
Professor Ashe teaches Sports Law as an Adjunct Professor at the Howard University School of Law, Georgetown Law Center, and did so for five years at the DeVos Sport Business Management Graduate Program at the University of Central Florida. He is also a frequent guest speaker at symposiums hosted by bar associations, colleges, and law schools.
Professor Ashe earned a B.A. in Psychology from Hamilton College, a J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School, and is a member of the North Carolina Bar. Between college and law school, he received extensive brand management, marketing, and sales training at The Procter & Gamble Distributing Company - New York Paper Products Division.
As much as possible, Professor Ashe enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, listening to live jazz, sampling local cuisines around the world, golfing with friends, and supporting his alma mater, law school, and organizations that enable youth to participate in sports and the performing arts.
