Juliet J. McKenna was appointed to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia as an associate judge in 2005. She previously served as a Magistrate Judge from April 2002 until her confirmation. Judge McKenna sat on the Family Court for almost ten years, presiding over child welfare, juvenile delinquency, domestic relations, child support and adoption cases. She currently is assigned to the Criminal Division. Judge McKenna has served on various court committees, including the Family Court Panels Committee (Chair from 2009-2011), the Family Court Implementation Committee (2002-2011) and the Adoption Day and Adoption Rules Committees (Co-Chair 2010-2011). She currently serves on the Court’s Training Committee. Before joining the D.C. Superior Court bench, she worked with Lawyers for Children America (LFCA), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality pro bono legal representation to children in the child welfare system, first as a Program Director and then Executive Director. While at LFCA, she was awarded an Arthur Liman Public Interest Fellowship to support her work. Prior to that, Judge McKenna was an Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Abuse and Neglect Section of the D.C. Office of the Corporation Counsel (now the Office of the Attorney General) and an associate at Crowell & Moring, a Washington, DC law firm. Judge McKenna has given numerous presentations on family law and child welfare issues.
