B.A., College of Wooster; J.D., Georgetown. Professor McTiernan is a Senior Special Counsel in the Office of Chief Counsel of the Division of Corporation Finance of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr. McTiernan previously served as the Special Counsel of the Division's Real Estate group. Prior to joining the Commission in 2004, Mr. McTiernan was a senior associate at Clifford Chance LLP in New York from 1997-2004. At Clifford Chance Mr. McTiernan represented traded and non-traded REITs as well as underwriters in REIT public offerings. Mr. McTiernan is an adjunct professor of securities regulation at the Georgetown University Law Center where he received his law degree in 1997 and also lectures for the INCAE Business School / Georgetown Law Center Joint Executive Program. As a Fulbright Senior Specialist in 2009, Mr. McTiernan assisted Hong Kong University with a study of the Hong Kong REIT market.
