The Office of Bar Counsel, an instrumentality of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, is responsible for investigating and prosecuting lawyers licensed in the District of Columbia who are alleged to have engaged in unethical conduct. Before working for the Office of Bar Counsel, Professor Porter was an associate at Caplin and Drysdale, where she did primarily civil litigation. Before assuming that position, Professor Porter clerked for Judge Harold Greene of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia between 1983 and 1985. Professor Porter attended law school at George Washington University and graduated fifth in her class in 1983.
