Professor Altherr is a partner at Banner & Witcoff, Ltd. where he has specialized in intellectual property litigation involving diverse technologies and successfully represented both plaintiffs and defendants as lead trial and appellate counsel.  While in private practice, he was appointed Special Attorney to the U.S. Attorney General and served as trial counsel defending the U.S. Government against claims of patent infringement.  Prior to joining Banner & Witcoff in 1992, he litigated intellectual property suits as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice Commercial Litigation Branch, and as a civilian and military attorney for the Department of the Army where he also served as a federal prosecutor and contracts attorney.   He is a drafter of the American Bar Association Amicus Curiae brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in eBay v. MercExchange addressing the standard for granting permanent injunctions against patent infringers.  Professor Altherr is among the five percent of the attorneys in the Washington DC area selected to the 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 Washington DC Super Lawyers lists, for his work in intellectual property litigation.
