James A. Bulen

Professor Bulen is an attorney and physician resident in internal medicine. Prior to attending medical school, Professor Bulen was Of Counsel to Safety Net Hospitals for Pharmaceutical Access, an organization of over 400 disproportionate share hospitals and health systems that participate in the Public Health Service 340B drug discount program. He previously practiced law as an associate at DLA Piper US LLP from 2003 through 2006. While at DLA Piper, Professor Bulen was involved in the defense of a pharmaceutical manufacturer in a "failure to warn" multi-district products liability action. Professor Bulen also has prior experience in all aspects of trademark law including prosecution and counseling as well as trademark licensing and enforcement of trademark rights through inter partes proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and in federal and state courts. In addition to his medical studies, Professor Bulen coordinates legal services for a family business, focusing on trusts and estates, real estate, and corporate matters. Professor Bulen received his B.A. in art history magna cum laude from Georgetown University in 1999 and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his law degree from Georgetown in 2003 and is licensed to practice law in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
