James Cooper is a Partner in Arnold & Porter’s litigation practice group, focusing on complex civil litigation, including commercial, antitrust and intellectual property matters. Prof. Cooper has represented clients - ranging from individuals to large corporations - at trial and on appeal in both state and federal courts and in alternative dispute resolution proceedings. Mr. Cooper's clients have included, among others, a number of Fortune 50 companies, professional sports leagues and athletes, "Big 5" accounting firms and major investment-banking firms.
Mr. Cooper serves on the firm's Ethics and Practice Committee and is admitted to the District of Columbia Bar and to the bars of numerous federal courts.
While pursuing his Ph.D. in political science at Indiana University, Prof. Cooper taught undergraduate courses on Constitutional Law, Law & Society, and Introduction to Political Science. He was awarded the Political Science Department’s Associate Teaching Instructor Award in 1991. At Arnold & Porter, Prof. Cooper has run several training sessions for the firm’s litigation associates, and for the past several years, has run the firm’s indigent criminal defense certification program.
