Thomas F. Kaufman

B.S.E.E., SUNY at Buffalo; J.D., Georgetown; MBA (with honors), The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Professor Kaufman is a director at Goulston & Storrs.  He practices in all areas of capital markets finance involving real estate, especially hospitality,  together with mezzanine finance, joint ventures and private equity involving real estate. The Vice President of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, he formerly was the chairman of the Capital Markets and Real Estate Finance Committee.  He has taught at Georgetown University Law Center for over 20 years and  regularly lectures at the Georgetown University MBA Program, the George Washington University MBA program, other business schools, various bar associations and CLE courses. He is the co-chair of the annual American Law Institute - American Bar Association ("ALI-ABA") program on Commercial Real Estate Defaults, Workouts and Reorganizations. He also is a faculty member on the annual ALI-ABA programs of Advanced Commercial Real Estate Finance and Modern Real Estate Transactions. He has written numerous articles including, Collateralized Debt Obligations: Innovation or Fad - The Impacts on Real Estate, Demystifying Real Estate Returns, and Registration Rights and Lock-up Agreements.
