B.A., University of Michigan; J.D., University of Illinois; LL.M.(Taxation), New York University. Judge Laro is a judge for the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. He has served as chairman of the board of the Republic Bank of Ann Arbor and as vice chairman and co-founder of Republic Bancorp, Inc. He was a tax attorney in private practice for 24 years. He was a regent at the University of Michigan and a member of the State Board of Education of Michigan. He has authored numerous articles on taxation. He co-authored the book Business Valuation (2011). Judge Laro is a frequent speaker on tax matters for the American Bar Association and other professional associations. Judge Laro has lectured to tax officials and Judges in Moscow and Beijing. He has taught the Advanced Pension Planning Seminar as a graduate adjunct at the Law Center.
