B.S.E.E., Rochester Institute of Technology; J.D., Georgetown. Professor Potenza is a partner at Banner & Witcoff, Ltd. He has been in private practice since 1976, specializing in intellectual property litigation. Professor Potenza was a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and served as chair of the American Bar Association Section of Science & Technology. He clerked for Chief Judge Harry Phillips of the Sixth Circuit. Professor Potenza has taught as a staff instructor at the National Technical Institute and at various ABA and continuing legal education programs including the Patent Trial Advocacy Institute and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. He currently serves as Chair-Elect of the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law, as the Publications Officer for the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law and is a former member of the ABA Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary. He is the past President of, and a Master at, the Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court and past president of the Patent Lawyers Club of Washington. Professor Potenza has also authored and lectured extensively in the area of patent and copyright law; the Internet, e-commerce, and business-method patents; and recently was contributing author in the "Patent Litigation Strategies Handbook", BNA 2000 and supplements.
