B.A. magna cum laude, Denison University; J.D. cum laude, George Washington.  Professor Gere has served as an Assistant Deputy Attorney General in the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia since 2011. She previously was a partner at Ross Dixon & Bell LLP (and later by merger), Troutman Sanders LLP, where she specialized in litigation with emphasis on civil rights, employment litigation, professional liability defense, ethics, and insurance coverage.  She also served as senior trial counsel in the Civil Division of the Department of Justice and was Chief of the Civil Division in the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Southern District of Ohio.  Professor Gere taught at the Attorney General's Advocacy Institute. She was a law clerk to Judge June L. Green of the U.S. District Court. Professor Gere is a member of the American Bar Foundation, and served as a member of the District of Columbia Committee on Bar Admissions and as a Hearing Committee member of the District of Columbia Board on Professional Responsibility.
