The allure of studying law in the nation's capital draws many students to Georgetown Law. A new academic program aims to remind them that opportunities to make a difference extend far beyond Washington, D.C.
Georgetown Law’s student organizations, more than 85 on campus, have always been remarkable. But as 3L Sabrina Bernadel (L’20) made her way through law school, she thought that the current affinity student groups had a definite energy. So this year, Bernadel — president of Georgetown Law’s Women of Color Collective — helped bring more than a dozen groups together to host an amazing “Intersectionality Week” November 4 through 8.
When Jackson “Chance” Cochran (L'21) met Christian Boxley (C'18) while playing for the Washington, D.C.,’s top men’s Ultimate (Frisbee) team "Truck Stop," they expected to do great things. Barbara Underwood, Solicitor General at the Office of the Attorney General, State of New York, and the Honorable Emmet G. Sullivan, District Judge, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, will each receive honorary degrees at Georgetown Law’s 2019 Commencement on Sunday, May 19. Underwood, a graduate of Georgetown Law, will deliver the Commencement address.
"We are delighted that in a few short weeks, Solicitor General Underwood and Judge Sullivan will be participating in our 147th Commencement," said Georgetown Law Dean William M. Treanor, noting that both honorary degree recipients are distinguished members of the legal profession and tremendous role models for young lawyers. "We are especially pleased that Underwood, a member of the Georgetown Law class of 1969, will be returning to address the Class of 2019."
